After a long hiatus we're back with our first virtual HER+Data meetup of 2022 - a lunch time affair on Thursday April 28th. We'll have talks from 3 amazing women who work with data! Join, ask questions and meet other women who love data!

Speakers:

Ruth Garcia Gavilanes, Senior Data Scientist @ Spotify
Ruth is a Senior Data Scientist for Spotify, where she explores innovative ways to combine data science and user research techniques to help drive the strategy and evaluation of new value propositions. Previously, she worked as a data scientist in Skyscanner helping teams optimise the purchase funnel and the evaluation of digital ad campaigns. She holds a PhD and MS in Information Technology done in collaboration with Yahoo Labs and Telefonica in Spain.

Sophie Daly, Data Scientist @ Stripe
Sophie was the first data science hire at Stripe’s Dublin office. Her favourite thing about being a data scientist is getting to work on a huge variety of business problems, and using analysis and machine learning to solve them. Her hobbies include deep learning and NLP (inside work), and reading, sport and binge watching The Office (outside work).

Sophie is going to talk about Stripe’s Operations team who have over 40,000 interactions with users every week. Sophie will discuss how Stripe is using advanced NLP to improve the user experience for customers contacting Stripe Support.

Ciara McAuley, Data Scientist @ Patreon
Ciara is a Data Scientist at Patreon, a platform that powers membership services for creators with established followings. Ciara partners with the membership team to inform product decisions through data discovery, analysis and experimentation and also with the Trust & Safety team to track violative content on Patreon. Ciara studied Computer Science at undergraduate level in Dublin City University. She worked in Workday as a Software Engineer for over 2 years as part of a Data Engineering team. She then went on to study for a Masters Degree in Data Analytics from Dublin City University. She lives in Dublin, Ireland and is an avid outdoor enthusiast who can regularly be found on hikes in the mountains with her Golden Retriever, Zeus.

Ciara will talk to us about how she moved from Software Engineering into Data Science and the overlapping skillsets & differences in both roles.
