Is there a philosophical connection between Buddhism, Buddhist meditation and Humanism? Come find out at our June 13th meeting when Venerable Shim Bo, a Zen Buddhist Monk who serves as Abbot and Spiritual Director of White Lotus Haven Zen of Connecticut, will explain to us what it means to him to sit with Buddha and how he believes meditation can lead to an awakening of the self. What are the differences between Zen meditation and secular meditation as described by Sam Harris in Waking Up? Shim Bo will give us an introduction to Buddha, his teachings, engage in a dialogue and lead us in a brief introductory Zen meditation.
This will be our FIRST IN PERSON MEETING IN 2 YEARS and we hope you will COME OUTSIDE and JOIN US at Sherwood Island State Park in the COVERED OUTDOOR PAVILION at 5:30 PM till sundown, 7:45 PM.

Sherwood Island State Park is free to all Connecticut residents and is at Exit 18 off of I-95. There is a $15 parking charge for out of state residents ($7 after 4 pm). Or,anyone from out of state could park in the commuter lot and carpool with a Connecticut resident. We hope to record the evening for all of our out of state members, participants and anyone in Connecticut who cannot be with us in person. There is a concession stand where you can buy light refreshments.
If you are waiting for approval to join this meetup group, you may still come to this event.
