What we're about

Ever been interested in Chinese Martial arts? Chinese Weapons? The history and the culture or just plain up want to swing some swords and spears? Then welcome to the Pigua-Tongbei Kung Fu society.

1.What is Pigua-Tongbei Quan?

Pigua Quan is a style of long range fighting form that is one of many systems under the Tong Bei Quan Kung fu. If you have heard of the short range explosive Baji Quan then you may have heard of it's brotherly martial relationship with Pigua. These three are Northern style kung fu which means they have a strong focus on footwork in order to generate power and deliver blows. These martial systems were developed in ancient times when warfare was still conducted using horseback, spears, swords and halberds. Hence you will find at our meetups that the weapons training and Kung fu training will complement each other.

Incidentally, Tong Bei Quan has many variants but its martial characteristics come from mimicking the long arm movements of the White gibbon (monkey) swinging powerfully through the trees. So you will find that Tong Bei Quan will train your arms, back, waist and footwork to swing and deliver blows from a longer distance. How you ask? come join our training to see :)

2. Why should I join?

Our goal in creating this society is to inform, share and grow Pigua-Tongbei Quan in Hong Kong as it is rather rare to find many (if any) masters teaching Pigua-Tongbei Quan here as its own pure comprehensive system and not as a subsidiary form. Also if you train our movements we guarantee you will be able to pick up other martial styles a LOT easier.

3. Who is this society for? Can I join?

We welcome all martial beginners to enthusiasts and seasoned fighters. We are currently a small group of less than 5 committed martial artists but we believe that what our system has to offer is truly unique and we wish to keep this ancient style alive, relevant and magnificent. Oh and you needn't be fit or in super great shape to try our style, come as you are!

4. Hmm still nervous or don't know which meet up session to join?

We recommend to try our Chinese Weapons session first as it has less martial perquisite required to get into and it can act as a gateway for new martial enthusiasts to understand Kung Fu philosophy, body movements and more importantly its a lot of fun!

We are currently based in the KungFu Masters dojo in Tai Kok Tsui (close to Prince Edwards, Mong Kok and Olympics) but we are now in the process of changing locations to continue our training sessions. We will update you all as we go along.

Finally, if you have attended our sessions and enjoyed them please leave us a review and send us some photos that you'd like to share :D
