Anyone with an interest in cybersecurity, ethical hacking, or penetration testing is welcome to join the Hack The Box Meetup South Africa community, hosted through H3XSEC.
Connect with fellow information security professionals, students, and enthusiasts to share knowledge, discuss current techniques, and collaborate on Hack The Box challenges in a private lab environment.
Our meetups are designed to support practical learning, networking, and hands-on experience for both newcomers and experienced practitioners. Sessions are hosted online via the H3XSEC Discord server, giving the community an accessible place to engage, learn, and grow together.

This is a practical, community-driven session focused on working through a Hack The Box target machine together.
The session will be facilitated by Aaron Van Den Berg, also known as th3cha1rman, who will guide participants through the challenge while encouraging discussion, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.
The goal is not just to solve the machine, but to understand the methodology behind each step, including enumeration, exploitation, privilege escalation, and post-exploitation reasoning.
Participants are encouraged to ask questions, share ideas, and contribute to the process.## New to Cybersecurity?
You are welcome to join.
Whether you are completely new to penetration testing or already building your skills, this meetup is designed to be approachable and practical. The environment is friendly, supportive, and focused on helping members learn through hands-on experience.
No one is expected to know everything. The point is to learn together.## What You Need
You only need:
- A computer
- A stable internet connection
- A free Hack The Box account
- Please create your Hack The Box account before the event so you are ready to participate.
## Required Software
Any required tools will be discussed during the meetup, and support will be provided where needed.
Aaron Van Den Berg, th3cha1rman, will be available on Discord from 17:00 to help attendees with environment setup, virtual machines, and technical questions before the session starts.## Recommended Virtual Machine Setup
To get the most out of the meetup, we recommend setting up either Kali Linux or Parrot OS in a virtual machine before the event.
