Hacks/Hackers Brighton is back.

It’s been a few years since hacks (journalists) and hackers (developers) of Brighton had the chance to meet, swap ideas and look for new collaborations.

We are excited to see Hacks/Hackers BTN coming back with a bang. The event will feature two great speakers:

Laura Oliver, freelance writer and editor

What does an audience member need from a story? Laura Oliver will talk about how a BBC World Service experiment inspired a different approach to audience growth at Conde Nast and how Vogue Global Network looked at its audiences’ needs to reimagine editorial and digital audience growth in 10 markets.

David Lockie, CEO, Pragmatic

One of the most exciting developments in digital business models is web monetisation - a way that users can stream money to content creators just like we all stream (too much) Netflix. David Lockie will introduce Coil, a new consumer offering in this space, describe how Coil allows content creators to instantly receive money from visitors while they consume the creators' content and briefly consider the underlying tech before thinking about applications for this going forwards. Coil is being developed by a San Francisco-based startup, which is working on a new business model for the web.

About the sponsor:

Pragmatic, a Brighton-based WordPress agency, creates digital experience platforms for publishers, brands and content-driven businesses. Check them out at https://pragmatic.agency/

A bit more about the group:

Hacks/Hackers is a global movement where hacks (journalists) and hackers (developers) meet for talks, demos, hackathons and socials. All are welcome.

It started in San Francisco and New York in 2009 and there are now close to 120 meet-up groups across five continents (see the Hacks/Hackers site http://hackshackers.com/).

The goal of Hacks/Hackers is to create a "network of journalists and technologists who rethink the future of news and information".

Hacks/Hackers Brighton launched in September 2011 at the Brighton Digital Festival.

Organised by Journalism.co.uk (http://www.journalism.co.uk/), the group includes talks and demos from hacks and hackers and draws on the wealth of talent in and around Brighton.

If you would like to host, sponsor or speak at the next event, please contact Marcela Kunova, editor, Journalism.co.uk at marcela@journalism.co.uk
