Toward a Program of Algorithmic Accountability: Blueprint for a Collaborative Approach.

Mark will make the case for the importance of institutional collaboration for developing approaches to holding decision-making and social sorting algorithms accountable for outcomes that have profound affects on people’s lives and life chances. He will start out with some case studies and then outline some contemporary challenges and requirements. The goal will be to start a discussion about possible collaborations between the academy and journalism directed toward developing systems and institutions for algorithmic accountability

Mark Andrejevic is Professor of Media Studies at Pomona College (US) and visiting professor at Monash University. His research focuses on popular culture, digital media, and surveillance. He is a member of the Council for Big Data, Ethics, and Society.
