The ability to find and report news has expanded wildly during the Internet Age, but so has the ability to spread misinformation.
In this partnership with NOLASec, three speakers will talk about different kinds of misinformation that have popped up in New Orleans and elsewhere, and even better: how to catch or mitigate that misinformation before it spreads.
6pm - Open bar and open taco bar 🍺 🌮
6:30 - Joe Sylve, Director of Research and Development at BlackBag Technologies, will talk about how journalists and developers can utilize digital forensics techniques in their day-to-day work.
7pm - Samantha Sunne, a freelance reporter, will demonstrate a suite of verification tools recommended by First Draft News, a misinformation think tank at the Harvard Shorenstein Center on Media.
7:30 - Michael Isaac Stein, an investigative reporter at The Lens, will explain how he broke the story of Entergy "astroturfing" a City Council meeting, which was recently featured nationally on HBO's John Oliver Show.
7:45 - More beer and tacos!
Thank you to our partner, NOLASec, and our sponsors, Hacks/Hackers and Mozilla.
