Details

Beautiful visualisations, meaningful maps, stories hidden in stats, big data and multimedia. Ever looked at stories that contain some or all of these things and wished you could do the same?

It may not be as hard as you think, which is why Code for Africa has teamed up with Google News Lab and The World Bank to develop StoryLab Academy (https://academy.codeforafrica.org/).

StoryLab Academy is a collection of online training courses designed to help you find and tell stories faster and better using graphs, charts, multimedia and more - all designed for you. StoryLab Academy also covers important subjects such as fact checking and verification and digital security.

And it's launching this week.

On the new site, you'll be able to work through any of 47 different lessons to build the perfect course to learn new skills or refresh old ones. As every lesson is designed to take no more than 15 minutes, you can fit in training around your regular work day.

StoryLab Academy is completely free to use and will grow over time, with more lessons and examples of cutting edge African journalism created using the techniques covered. Interested? Then join Hacks/Hackers Johannesburg on Tuesday 30 January at JoziHub to find out more about StoryLab Academy - including our plans to set up local study groups and how lead to funding for your work and what kind of local resources are available to supplement learning.

If you're keen to join us, please signup using this form - https://goo.gl/forms/SetvAp3Z79kYiuLi1 - as well as via Meetup.
