Details
One of the highlights of the year, the Duke Menell Media Exchange, is upon us again. This two day conference, which takes place on 8 and 9 June at The Forum in Bryanston is packed full of inspiring speakers, practical workshops and panel discussions about the future of news in South Africa. From covering politics to innovating in the newsroom, there’s something for everyone.
And Hacks/Hackers Johannesburg is proud to be a part of it again this year.
As part of the programme, we’ll be hosting two workshops.
The first is “Quick tips for creative digital storytelling”. In this workshop, we’ll be asking what the challenges are to integrating simple digital storytelling techniques into everyday reporting, and drawing on the experience of some of South Africa’s best data journalists to help simply workflows for quick and effective results.
In the second workshop, “Who’s on your phone: digital security for journalists” we’ll be looking at what the key cyberthreats to media workers and activists in today’s connected world, from state security to spear phishing attacks carried out by artificial intelligences. More important, perhaps, we’ll be discussing important tools and good practice that will help you avoid them.
It’s going to be a fantastic couple of days, and we’re just one of the minor attractions. Join us and the likes of Phathiswa Magopeni, Richard Poplak, Iman Rappetti and more at Duke MMX – it’s free! Just visit this link to register: https://mmx.duke.edu/
