What we’re about
We are a group of nice and cheerful people who like to be active in the outdoors. We meet for hikings and other outdoor sports in and around Hamburg and in Northern Germany. We are of all ages and come from many countries, are open minded, friendly and always interested in meeting new people. Join Hamburg Hikers if you are new to Hamburg, if you want to get to know the Hamburg area and its people better or just if you like hiking with a group. Attending is free for all events! (... but you may incur costs for your tickets, admission, food and drinks.)
If you have an idea for an event, please give notice and become an organizer of Hamburg Hikers! It's easy and you define all conditions for your event: the sporting level, the distance, the pace, the duration, the supporting program, group size, language of the event description and everything else that is important for you. Just make sure your event somehow matches the groups purpose and that it is non commercial. And give the participants a fair description about what to expect. If you have an idea for an event but are afraid to organize, please send a message to Lutz or talk to him on a hike.
Release of Liability: All events of Hamburg Hikers are private gatherings organized by volunteers, not by professionals. Everyone participates at their own risk and takes full responsibility for their own safety. By signing up for an event, the member acknowledges that he/her is aware and has made his/her guests aware of the risks, dangers and hazards associated with any outdoor activity and freely accept, fully assume and tries to avoid all such risks, dangers and hazards. The member and guests further agree to release and discharge the organizer from and against any and all liability arising from his/her and his/her guest's participation in the event activities.
We're looking forward to having you in the group!

Relaxed hike with plenty of time for nice breaks (not for walking slowly). There is also time at the end for the beach (incl. swimming, if you want) or a beer. If the weather is rainy or cool, we will instead continue to Ascheberg.
One of my favorite hikes in spring. It might give you an idea why Karl Baedeker considered this region the most lovely one in Germany.
- Requires bus on demand service (ALT). I will make the reservation on Monday, the 29th of April. Please, make your final decision latest on Sunday, the 28th. This applies for everyone on the wait list, too.
- Very limited capacity. Reliable people might get priority, i.e. unreliable people might be moved out or to the waiting list.
- When making the reservation, I will check with the carrier, if the capacity can be increased.

Frequently asked
- Where do we meet?
After joining the event, you find this information (text & map)
- in the meetup app: below the participants
- in a web browser on a mobile device: typically on the top
- in a web browser on a desktop computer: typically on the right side- I am on the wait list. Can I come?
If there is a wait list, this means that the limit of participants has been reached. If someone on the going list cancels, the next on the waiting list will get automatically this spot. The limits can be very strict (for example due to limited transport capacities).
- I am on the going list. Can I bring someone else?
This would not be fair, if other people are waiting. In general, I need to know and limit the number of participants (see above). Everyone interested should join personally.
- Hiking at the Banks of River Trave (20 km / moderate)Hamburg Central Station, Hamburg, HH
Dear hikers, any chance you can join me on Sunday next week for a trip to the nature reserve Dummersdorfer Ufer? This place is located between Lübeck and Travemünde on the western banks of the river Trave, just big enough for a 20 km circular hike and well worth the trip! Please bring your own food and drinks as needed for the day.
The train RE8 in the direction of Lübeck-Travemünde, starting from Hamburg Hauptbahnhof at 10:06, will bring us to the starting point at the station Lübeck-Kücknitz, where we should arrive at 11:16. The return trip is just as easy, a direct connection from Lübeck-Kücknitz to Hamburg, probably at 16:44 – 17:56 or if we take our time hiking at 17:44 – 18:53.
We will meet at Hamburg Hbf on platform 6 section A, below the sign 'A' at 9:55 and enter the second last car as soon as the train arrives. The train usually departs from platform 6, but check the displays for any changes on Sunday. Alternatively, if you start somewhere else or would like to have your peace and quiet during the journey, we will meet at 11:15 at the Lübeck-Kücknitz train station. If you don't own a Deutschland-Ticket and therefore are interested in sharing a group ticket for the trip (Schleswig-Holstein-Ticket) with other participants, please use the event chat for your arrangements.
Please play nice and only sign up if your are 100% sure that you will join! Unreliable people (no show or late cancellation) may be excluded from future events with limited capacity. Repeat offenders will get banned from the group.
As always, this is a free event, but voluntary donations are welcome. Nobody is expected to give, only do it if you can afford and if you like to. Look out for the violet donation box towards the end of the hike.

🇬🇧 The diversity of hiking is vast, ranging from leisurely cultural or nature walks to speed hiking. After-work hikes provide a balance to the stressful professional and everyday life in our fast-paced and stimulus-intensive era. To actively relax, it doesn't take much: fresh air and physical activity in nature, and the stress dissipates on its own.⚠️ It can happen that you are unable to participate at times. Please be so kind as to notify us in advance so the group does not have to wait unnecessarily for you. ⚠️
Participation in my tours is free but not without purpose. At the beginning of each event, I collect donations for the central emergency room of the Hamburg women's shelters,
where women and children find protection from domestic violenceIch freu mich auf euch
Liebe Grüße
