For anyone who has wanted a regular games night but doesn't have a group to bring to one. Escapist's Board Game Club runs every Friday from 6pm, and it is the easiest way into board gaming in Hamilton.
A NOTE ON WHO RUNS THIS
This is Escapist's club, not ours. Hamilton newbies has been dormant for a few years and we are not going to borrow someone else's credibility to look busier than we are. Vaughan, who runs this group, is a regular here and will be around plenty of Fridays - just not every one, so don't count on him being at the door.
WHAT IT IS
A club, not a tournament. You turn up, pick something off a 400+ game library, and play. It is built around meeting people - staff will introduce you around, there is popcorn on the table, and nobody expects you to already know the rules. Participants teach each other.
Do I have to pick a game? No, not usually. If you would rather just play, join any table that has space and slot in — there is nearly always room mid-game, or a new game will usually start up soon, most games at these events don’t go beyond 30 mins in length, so arriving at 7pm or even 8pm is an option also.

WHAT IT COSTS
$10 for the night, covering the game library and a bowl of popcorn for the table. Chips, brownies, milkshakes and other non-alcoholic drinks are available to buy through the evening.
WHO THIS SUITS
Newcomers to Hamilton, people whose friends have all moved away, and anyone who has been meaning to try a games night for years. You don't need to own a game or know anyone in the room.
DO I NEED TO RSVP?
No. Turning up on the night is how this club normally works. If you would rather let someone know you are coming, do it one way or the other - RSVP here, or ring Escapist on 07 834 1118 - rather than both, so the numbers we pass to them stay honest. It is a limited-space venue and they appreciate the warning.
And if you would rather not walk in cold: message me here through Meetup before you come and I will pass your name to Escapist so somebody is looking out for you, or so you at least have a name to ask for if you get lost on the way or you turn up late. Nobody here expects you to know anyone yet.
