• Intro To Bladesmithing: DIY Railroad Spike Knife (2 Day Class)

    NOTE: THIS IS A 2-DAY, 2-PART CLASS. PART 1 ON SATURDAY, NOON TO ABOUT 3:30 - 4:00 PM.

    PART 2 ON SUNDAY, NOON UNTIL YOUR KNIFE IS COMPLETE.

    PART 1 (Saturday): We will be forging rail road spikes into knives. In this first class we will hammer out a knife blank from a spike to prepare for the stock removal process. Basic hammering techniques, use of a hydraulic forging press and good forging practices will be covered as well as blacksmithing terms and safe equipment operation.

    PART 2 (Sunday): We will be doing stock reduction with grinders and sanders to create a finished knife then twisting and heat treating the knives before final finishing and sharpening.

    Be sure to wear closed toe shoes and long pants.

  • Welding For Everyone

    WELDING FOR EVERYONE! In the Welding for Everyone class, the instructor will cover basic welding techniques. A variety of useful welding methods will be demonstrated and then repeated by the students. Open to beginners as well as those who have prior experience.

    Please bring a long sleeved, preferably denim shirt with you to protect your arms (NO FLANNEL). The class will introduce you to ARC welding with flux-core wire feed (FCAW), MIG (GMAW) and STICK (SMAW) welding. For ages:[masked] (All materials included) Seating is limited.

  • Bladesmith club meeting

    We hold regular standing drop-in meetups for bladesmiths who are members of Hammerspace on Thursday nights.

    We will be offering the various advanced classes on these nights on a rotating basis or on demand for some activities, and provide ongoing instruction and support for projects begun in previous weeks.

    Of course, blade-smithing club members can just bring their own projects to work on during these nights, or just come to watch and be social as well.

    This event is only open to dues paying members of the space.
    Fabricator level members may attend for free.

    Event fee helps pay for propane for the forge, and new toys for smithing.

  • "FRANKENSTUFFY: SOCIAL SEWING" BUILD NIGHT

    Who wants to dismember some stuffed animals & baby dolls, and then make new creepy creations from all of the random dismembered parts? Join us for our annual FRANKENSTUFFY BUILD NIGHT at HammerSpace!

    Late arrivals welcome

    Open to both HammerSpace members AND non-members of all ages. Children under 13 years old must be accompanied by an adult (no additional fee for their adult if that adult is not making their own Frankenstuffy).

    We will be providing all of the stuffed animals, materials, and guidance needed to make a 'FrankenStuffy' of your very own using the parts you dismember. You are also welcome to bring some of your own stuffed animal and baby doll 'victims' to use or donate for this build event.

    Outside food & drink (adult or otherwise) welcome as well.

  • Forge a Squirrel Cooker / Pot hanger - A campfire accessory with style

    This intermediate blacksmithing class will introduce students to heavier stock than we use in the Viking fork class, but will cover roughly the same skills to create a two piece kit woodfire cooking kit for your camping bedroll. (coffee pot not included)

    It may be called a squirrel cooker, but you can use it to cook a portion or two of just about any kind of meat. You can cook hotdogs, and sausage or even marshmallows or stick an ear of corn on it to roast.

    You can use the hook on the other end to hang a coffee pot or soup pot over the fire.

    Students will be using a propane forge and hammers and anvils to forge tapers, scrolls, rings and twists.

    All materials are included. (except the teapot)
    Wear closed toed shoes and long pants.

    It will be hot around the forge, and we will be taking a lunch break half way through, so feel free to bring a snack and cool beverage, or you are welcome to pop over to local fast food options. Or just bring some marshmallows and dogs... :)

  • Spoopy Silver Smithing - Eyeball Rings

    This silversmithing class is a good first or second class after learning to make a simple band ring. In this class we introduce new tools for setting stones in a silver bezel.

    We will design and solder together a combination of silver wire and bezel(s) to create settings for CREEPY EYEBALL cabochons. Many colors of Cabochons will be available if the Gaze of Sauron isn't your thing. (Yes, you can also make a mood ring if you want.)

    This class has more soldering involved than our other jewelry classes and is a great opportunity to practice this essential skill.

  • 3D printing: How to draw and print 3D objects

    If you've ever wanted to get into 3D printing, but don't quite know how to get started, then this is the class for you! 3D Printing & Design class, at Hammerspace. Learn how to design objects to be printed, as well as how to operate a 3D printer. No prior knowledge required.

    Be sure to bring your laptop so you can get set up to get started on designing your first 3D creation. We have desktops and laptops available if you do not have a portable computer.

    We have plenty of printers for all the students, no need to bring your own.

    We will be using the free cloud software Tinkercad to introduce students to easy 3D design and 3D printing. Other free software tools will also be used.
