Leading Lines in the New Forest - Smugglers Hill

Details

Degree of difficulty - 3 (easy)

This is an on location mentoring session. Its designed to be fun and not as formal as that sounds ...... for up to six people, the day starts with a challenge, followed by 1:1 mentoring and ending up the day watching (and photographing) the sunset. More details below :)

The session is all about looking for, finding and using leading lines in your photography

One of the places leading lines are commonly found are simple pathways. All apart from the folklore which surrounds Smugglers Hill, it has some of those lovely, ridged-with-recent-rain pathways as well as normal pathways (you know, the ones you can walk on ...) leading through short grassland and land stuffed with ferns. One of those pathways is particularly photogenic (I've made it the header photo - messed about with a bit cos of meetup constraints .... ), so we will make the walk from the Car Park to that pathway and back.

The walk is around 2km in length and there is a steepish hill to walk up before we walk along its ridge.

There are no postcodes (well there is, BH24 3DB but its a huge area ...) so;

Meet at Smugglers Road. Thats what the Car Park is called. If you google map Smugglers Road it will take you to the right Car Park. If thats not how you work, directions are the only way to go - follow the A31 west out to the Picket Post junction. Turn south off the A31 for 2km until you come across a triangle of a junction. Turn right here, now travelling west for 1km and the car park is on your right. Make sure you have my number to hand - 07974 173345

Sunset is at 20.20, so we will meet at 18.00. That should give us time to wander around finding leading lines to incorporate into your images to arrive at the photogenic pathway around 20.00. At or around that time we will retrace our steps back to the car park

Just about the only reason to cancel the event is if there is a reasonable chance of rain. I will get a very good idea two-three days ahead of the event and cancel, if appropriate, at that point. If I cancel I will offer refunds :)

Who is this for? As its about one of the basics of composition its for anyone who wishes to improve their photography. It does not matter at all what camera or mobile camera you have, not what settings you choose to use.

My phone number in case you get lost (it happens!) is 07974 173345.

Bring a torch and wear Walking Boots or Walking Shoes. Bring an extra layer of clothing, it can get colder towards sunset

Any other questions, fire away in the comments section! :)
