Jakarta Book Club ( is celebrating its 5th anniversary!

After so much euphoria and ideas came out of last month's #JBCmeetup, we hope many of you will join us this month to discuss the highly-anticipated topic, Graphic Novels. Yes, Alan Moore fans, this is your time to shine!

"Wait... Are they like comic books that I read when I was a kid?"

Yes and no. Graphic novels may be presented in comic-strip format, but it has a larger target audience. It can contain anthology, fiction, or non-fiction, including story based on serious reportage. The power in its visual can make any of us laugh, cry, scared, or even feel provoked.

Expect to hear reviews on books like "Maus" (created by Art Spiegelman (, the first graphic novel to win a Pulitzer Prize in 1992, award-winning "Persepolis" created by Marjane Satrapi (, "Watchmen" created by Alan Moore ( and Dave Gibbons, "Lone Wolf and Cub" created by Kazuo Koike and Goseki Kojima, "Kiki de Montparnasse" created by Catel and Jose-Luis Bocquet, and more (to be updated).

Feel free to suggest us book(s) related to this subject or bring your favorite graphic novels.

Agenda of event:

• book reviews & discussion
• book swap
• special: anniversary celebration
• late-lunch chat (BYO)

PS. There will be book swapping at the end of the event, so bring your old book(s) and expect to bring home a "new" one!
