Volunteer Opportunity! Citymeals on Wheels For The Elderly, Followed By Brunch

Details

This volunteer opportunity helps a segment of the NYC population that is particularly vulnerable (our home-bound seniors) which is facing a steadily growing problem - hunger. As our city’s elderly grow older, they are more likely to have mobility limitations, while living at or below the poverty level. The elderly of East Harlem are particularly more vulnerable, residing in challenging living conditions alone, and who can no longer shop or cook for themselves.

Citymeals-on-Wheels (www.citymeals.org (http://www.citymeals.org/)) raises private funds to ensure no homebound elderly New Yorker will ever go a day without food or human company. Citymeals funds 33 community-based agencies that bring weekend, holiday and emergency meals to homebound elderly New Yorkers - one of the agencies we'll be helping as volunteers.

How are we helping?

On Saturday, April 19th, we'll assist the Stanley Isaacs Senior Center Citymeals-on-Wheels program with delivery of meals to the elderly. Volunteers should wear weather appropriate clothes and comfortable shoes as deliveries are done on foot within walking distance from the meal center. Although the weather may not always be favorable, the meals MUST be delivered as many, if not all, of the elderly in the program RELY on the meal delivery for the day.

Our Meetup

We'll meet at the Senior Center at 9:15am on Saturday for a short training, then break into small teams of 2 or 3 to delivery the meals to the elderly.

Brunch after will be at ABV - 1504 Lexington Avenue, on the corner of 97 Street.

If you have any questions, running late, need more information on parking and etc., feel free to call/text Daniel at 774.275.3646.
