What we're about
Let's get together and have fun enjoying delicious plant-based food with like-minded people. "Whole-food plant-based" means we focus on plant foods in their natural, minimally processed state as much as possible because such foods are health promoting. We understand the use of small additions of salt and natural sweeteners, and perhaps on occasion minimal use of oils. Some people may also choose occasional use of more processed foods such as bread, pasta, bottled salad dressings and sauces, sweet snacks, pre-packaged foods, vegetarian meat substitutes, etc. These foods are not essential for a healthy lifestyle, but they can make eating plant based more appealing, convenient and tasty for some. We are interested in eating healthier in the style of John McDougall MD, Dean Ornish MD, Caldwell Esselstyn MD, Neal Barnard MD, Joel Fuhrman MD etc. All of which strongly emphasize consumption of vegetables, fruits, beans (legumes), whole grains/starches, and nuts/seeds which are also the healthier staples of Mediterranean diet research. This style diet also encourages eliminating (or significantly limiting) the consumption of animal foods including all dairy and minimizing intake of processed foods. Foods can be in either in a cooked or raw form. This Meetup is for plant eaters, vegetarians, vegans, and people who want to lean plant based for their eating, and for those looking to prevent or improve chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, obesity, reflux, constipation, IBS, high blood pressure, and many others. We are a plant based family and I have been researching nutrition over the last decade. In 2014, I completed the McDougall Starch Solution Program and in 2015 completed a Master's degree in Human Nutrition. We have continued interest in highlighting food choices that are healthy, practical, convenient, inexpensive, invigorating and delicious! Each Meetup will be a shared potluck meal, and we may also explore nutrition topics and the work of relevant authors, or have a movie night if there is interest. This Meetup is not associated with any non-profit organization, author, publisher or food manufacturer.
