West Kaunala Trail (Intermediate) -- North Shore

Description: If you like to get a workout and enjoy your environment, then you will probably like this. You'll be graced with beautiful views of the North Shore all the to Kaena Point on this beginner/intermediate level hike. Most of the hike is through a shady forest. The last quarter is on a paved road. The summit of the hike has some great views of the North Shore and Waimea bay. After we will head into Waimea for some cheap eats!

Duration: This is about 6 miles and 2.5hours, depending on our pace. About a 600' ascent.

Dangers: Slippery rocks, stream crossings tree roots are present. Good footwear is essential.

Dogs: Are allowed (always on leash).

Directions: From Town take H-1 west and follow signs to NORTH SHORE. Follow Kamehaheha HWY all the way around island past Waimea bay. When you see the supermarket(on the right)turn right onto Pupukea rd. Follow 2 miles. Parking: On the side of the road with enough space for vehicles to pass. No parking in boy scout parking lot.
