Hike the Wahiawa Hills Loop Trail
Details
This adventure through a portion of the huge Eva Forest Reserve will take us on a 4 mile loop that begins with a steep descent into the valley where we will rock hop across a shallow portion of the Kaukohahua Stream (the state’s longest at 33 miles), then ascend to the Ko'olau foothills where we will hike through towering ohia, paperbark, ironbark, eucalyptus, swamp mahogany, and koa trees. After several ups and downs, we will reach a mid-way rest stop on the stream where taking a dip in the cool, clear water is suitable. After a snack break, we will ascend the ridge again and continue the loop through the shady forest back to where we started. If you like forest hikes, this one is memorable, combined with stream hopping.

Intermediate hike: Suitable for active kids as young as 11 and adults in good shape.

Recommendations: at least 24 oz of water, shorts instead of long pants, hiking shoes and microspikes, additional water shoes if planning on walking in the stream at the rest spot.

Difficulty: Moderate. Several steep hills but no rope climbing or dangerous drop offs. Shoes with good grip (like hiking shoes) is recommended. Dangers: Some slippery conditions. Make sure you stay with the group as there are many trail diversions and the area is noted for getting hikers lost.
Dogs: Dogs ok (leashes required by law except for service dogs)
Directions to meeting place: Meet at the end of California Road which is just beyond 2649 California Avenue in Wahiawa.

A note about parking on this street: The residents will tell you not to park directly opposite another car. It is permissible to park on both sides of the street, but you must leave room for The Bus to weave through the parked cars.
Bus: Route 62 to end of California Ave.
You must RSVP to attend this event, and un-RSVP if not attending in order to avoid being marked as a no-show. Two no-shows in a given year will put you off on the waitlist for future hikes for the remainder of the year. Guests are limited to 1 to accommodate more dues-paying members but message the organizer if you need an exception.
