Join us for dinner-and-a-movie night at Cafe Saint Ex!

When embarking on a new design challenge, it feels natural to research how the majority of people experience a problem. However, observing and interacting with people who represent extremes can amplify needs and illuminate workarounds that might otherwise go overlooked.

Hyungsoo Kim, the creator of Eone, a designer timepiece company that was born out of empathy for the visually impaired, will join us to tell the story of his work. We will also watch three TED talks that each tell a story about how researching the needs of people with disabilities led to designs that ultimately benefit everyone. Videos will include Elise Roy’s TED talk “Designing for Disability,” Timothy Prestero’s “Design for People, Not Awards,” and a short piece on the origin of the OXO Good Grips company.

If you would like a short primer on the topic, feel free to check out this one-pager from the stanford d.school: https://dschool.stanford.edu/wp-content/themes/dschool/method-cards/extreme-users.pdf
