When the first genetic tests were offered to consumers in the late 1990s, the concept was both audacious and bold: the idea that individuals could explore their own human genome without the aid of a healthcare provider to order the test or interpret the results.

The application of genomics has significantly improved our molecular and clinical understanding of complex diseases including cancer, diabetes, obesity and neurological disorders, thereby leading to more precise and personalized ways to detect, diagnose and treat diseases..

However, like in every other field, there still remains a natural opposition to change and 'disruption', and we see considerable gap in the understanding, interpretability, acceptance and applicability of genomics in routine clinical and consumer practice.
