With Qvik (https://qvik.com/) Helsinki Design Meetup is exploring impactful design.
Qvik is known for mobile design but the reality has been much broader than that for several years already. Nowadays, we want to focus on creating measurable impact and won’t limit ourselves to mobile apps anymore.

In this event we will share stories about two concrete cases:
VR ticket vending machine project
The previous generation of ticket vending machines for the Finnish state railway company (VR) was notorious for its usability issues, and VR wanted to make sure the next generation would be nothing like that. The hardware for the new vending machine boasted features like a huge touch screen, new sensors and a modern payment terminal. The goal was to design a user interface that makes the most of these capabilities to address commercial goals, like average order time and average order value, not to forget more humane metrics like accessibility and customer satisfaction.
The new machines have now been out for a couple of months and we can take a first look at how the goals have been met. What is more, we learn some general patterns that are useful when designing order flows for any kind of a complex product.
Personalised offers for Tallink Club One customers
Over years, we have been creating several successful services with Tallink, the leading shipping operator in the Baltic Sea. This time we’d like to share our experience with one of the most recent ones, where we helped design a new kind of a service for their loyal customers. The easily visible part of the service is a landing page where the customers can book trips with their bonus points easier than ever. The part behind the scenes is how customers are taken to the service with personalised messages in different channels and how the actual page contents get personalised as well.
In addition to inspiring results, this presentation shares some lessons learned from designing services that utilise an underlying marketing automation platform. Further, it contains some interesting UX details and provides a rarely seen example of successful MVP scoping.
