Conference Prep: Powerful pitches and Queries

HWG is presenting this program in March to help Las Vegas Writer's Conference registrants prepare their pitches for the agents and publishers they’ll meet at the conference.

Pitch sessions are included in the registration fees for Las Vegas Writer's Conference. To help registrants prepare for their pitches, expert query analyst MM Finck of Query Quill will:

• Show different traditional formats for queries, fiction, memoir, and non-fic
• Talk about elements and options
• Show some "bad" queries and point out why, illustrating common mistakes
• Show some good queries and point out strengths
• Show up four or five queries before and afters to show how they were enhanced and why the afters were more successful
• Discuss how to find agents, how to tell the good ones from the bad, think about what kind of agent you want, and how to personalize the letter
• Teach how to find comps
• Review participant's queries/pitches and discuss what's working and suggestions for what can be better.
