HWG is presenting this program in March to help Las Vegas Writer's Conference registrants prepare their opening pages to prepare for the First-Page Panels during the conference.

The First Page Read is a long-standing tradition of the Las Vegas Writer’s Conference. To help writers know what to watch for in their first pages, Dr. Wendy Wimmer will run-down pointers and offer critique during the meeting.

About the speaker:

Wendy Wimmer's has been published in Per Contra, Blackbird, Barrelhouse, Waxwing, Jetfuel Review, ANMLY, and others. She is currently reading fiction for Barrelhouse and has previously served as fiction editor and/or fiction assistant editor for Witness, Cream City Review, and Sheepshead Review. Her short story collection Entry Level was a semi-finalist for the Hudson Award and the St. Lawrence Book Award, as well as nominated for Best American Short Stories, AWP Intro to Journals, Best New American Voices and multiple Pushcart Prizes. She was a 2017-2020 Black Mountain Institute Fellow and received her PhD in English-Creative Writing from the University of Nevada at Las Vegas.
