What we're about

"Building Community one friend at a time" is our motto, but what is Community? There are so many definitions: people that live in the same area, people that share common interests or pastimes, people helping neighbors, people supporting local businesses, people sharing a sense of civic pride. Hendo Fun Friends (HFF) is all that, and more! Our group provides many and varied events to cater to most anyone's interests, always welcoming new ideas and venues - especially when you volunteer to Host the event! The one thing most all of our events have in common is that they are held in the Hendersonville area. Our group is all-inclusive: we are single, married and widowed... rich and poor... working and retired... native born, transplants, and immigrants... residents and visitors... followers of various philosophies and religions... we differ politically... we might identify sexually, racially, and ethnically different than you. So yes, our HFF community is a large and diverse group and you will meet many that are different from you - but that is a good thing, not a scary one! It's time to have Fun and make new Friends - especially if you are a newcomer to Hendersonville! Together let's enjoy the local area - who knows, you may soon put a name to that "stranger" you've seen all over town!
This is not your "parents Meetup" - we hold MANY events, which means you will receive MANY emails to announce our various events. You can always change your email settings to customize how many notifications you receive.
"Bienvenido a Hendersonville Divertidos Amigos!"
Remember to support our Sponsors and local venues by purchasing beverage or food at events - and the hard-working wait staff would welcome tips. And if the spirit moves you, show our local musicians that Hendersonville Fun Friends appreciates their talent - via the Tip Jar!

Long Branch Tr to Fish Hatchery; a Saunter

Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education

John Muir didn’t like the word ‘hike’. “We ought to saunter through them reverently, not 'hike' through them.”
I am going to Long Branch, Grogan, & Cedar Rock Falls near the Brevard Fish Hatchery; A few of you are welcome to join me.
Hike Distance: 6.5mi Total descent 600 ft apprx:
Pace: 1.5mph – because I’m an ol’ Codger.
Difficulty: 75% down hill; roots, rocks & natural surface; 1 ankle deep stream Xing.
The main trial is easy, The side trails to the individual falls will be moderate to difficult ('technical footing’ required).
Drive time: ¼ hr 1-way; High Clearance vehicle & 4-mile car shuttle reqr’d.
Apprx return time: 2:00 pm (+4.5hrs)
We will NOT take time for a lunch stop. Snack and drink as you walk..;-)
Weather Check: Brevard, NC.
Please bring an extra pair of shoes to avoid bringing your muddy shoes into the driver's car at the end of the hike.
This event is NOT for beginners or those with health or balance issues.
This is a dog-participant hike. This event is NOT for those who are uncomfortable with the antics of fun-loving dogs. Dogs are welcome (IF their masters are well trained). Well trained dogs can be 'off-leash'.
Incessant prattlers will be assumed to be having an affair. Obstreperous raucous yawping is discouraged.
DESCRIPTION;
Remember - hikes led by ‘the Curmudgeon’ tend to have challenging surprises.
I will be carrying the ‘Ent-Ward’ that gives us permission to pass thru the forest.
Itinerary: Long Branch Tr, Butter Gap Tr (to Grogan Falls); Cat Gap Tr.
We will be walking, mostly, along a wooded old logging road. Initial 200ft gradual ascent followed by a 600 ft gradual descent.
Long Branch Falls is a 15ft drop w/ lower spreading slide. There is a steep, but smooth, 100 ft side trail to the falls.
Grogan Falls requires a 20 ft step-ladder steep side-trail descent to the bottom of the falls.
We will connect with the Butter Gap trail to come to the 2 falls of Cedar Rock Creek. Both side trails are moderately steep developed trails to the falls. Some 'technical footing' required.
We, then, proceed to the Fish hatchery via the Cat Gap Tr.
All hikes are at your own risk. You are responsible for your OWN safety and adequate equipment.
Waiver: There are certain risks inherent in any outdoor activity. Each participant, by signing up to attend this event, agrees to release from liability the leader(s), Hendo Fun Friends, its Partners, Affiliates, and members for any accident, injury, illness, or personal loss which might occur while participating in this activity or while traveling in any vehicle during this trip. Each participant further agrees to abide by the rules and regulations concerning safety, to follow instructions of the leader(s), and not to become intentionally separated from the group. The leader(s) also has the right to use any images collected on this trip for recording on website photo collections.
