What we're about
Hello! My name is Deborah Orandon, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Portland Oregon and have been working with highly sensitive people for over 30 years in my movement, massage and counseling practices. (Please visit: http://www.selfawarenesscounseling.com/ to get to know me a bit better.) Discovering Dr. Elaine Aron’s Highly Sensitive Person work over 20 years ago, and honoring my own sensitivity, was a turning point for me in being able to move my life toward balance. And I'm excited to share this gift by sponsoring the Highly Sensitive People of Portland, OR Meetup Site.
I've included some more information about the trait of High Sensitivity, here: https://www.meetup.com/Highly-Sensitive-People-of-Portland-OR/about/
My hope is that together we can empathize, share, witness, nurture and cultivate our sensitive selves while forming connections and community. Please feel free to share your ideas for locations and types of meetups, resources for HSPs, tips and information.
I look forward to meeting you and helping this community inter-connect so that we can lend each other support in making the most of our sensitive natures.
Upcoming events (4+)
Mindfulness Meditation is a well-proven tool that can help you learn to be calm and sane in an increasingly insane world. Greg Jesser shares insights from his own personal challenges as a Highly Sensitive Person, and from his professional experience as a counselor. Each week Greg presents a guided visualization designed to lead you to your calm center and there find practical tools to empower your valuable HSP traits. The meditation then moves naturally into 15-minutes of silence.
Over the years, Greg has guided a diverse range of people seeking more authentic, empowered lives. He has been a volunteer Community Mediator for the City of Beaverton, and is the cohost with his partner, Franklin, of the monthly “Highly Sensitive People's Support Circle” found here on the Portland Highly Sensitive People Meetup.

This meetup is a support group for those identifying as highly sensitive to come together and share issues and solutions in a safe, nonjudgmental space. Although this is not therapy, it can be therapeutic to be heard and listen to others. Our goal is to better understand our traits, share our experience with other HSP's and move beyond feelings of not fitting in and the mistaken belief that we are somehow “broken” or "too sensitive" to a personal empowerment which benefits us and our world in profound new ways.
We welcome those who prefer to watch and listen with camera and microphone off. There is much to be learned just by being present.
