Visiting countries: Serbia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania (13 days) 13 Sep to 25 Sep - Must arrive Belgrade on 12 Sep Balkans, also called Balkan Peninsula, easternmost of Europe’s three great southern peninsulas is full of hidden gems waiting to be discovered. These 13 rich days are the ideal expedition to the stunning Tara River under UNESCO protection since 1977, the eastern delicacies of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the lush waterways of the region. Plus, enjoy an exclusive experience of eastern world unmolested nature with pure river water; spectacular wonders, adventure, culture, food and people; this one got it all... The word Balkan is Turkish and means “mountain,” and the peninsula is certainly dominated by this type of landform, especially in the west. Click on this link for more details of the regions: http://www.britannica.com/place/Balkans Day 1 - World Famous Canyon (Wild Beauty) Drive to base camp on River Tara of 144km length, also name Tear of Europe due to its water purity, safe for drinking. Hail as the greatest Canyon in Europe and is world famous, just second to Colorado River, it is more than 1300m deep. Tara River is under UNESCO protection since 1977, with around 50 rapids, numerous water pools and waterfalls. This will be our world in the next few days for us to soak in the peaceful, untouched yet wild river with rafting scale of 3-5 grades that is known to be one of the most attractive rivers in the world. (wet suit, neoprene boots, life west, helmet, paddle are provided). Covering 30km of the river, with stops for swimming, refreshments, photography, we will then arrive at Radovan Luka campsite; have lunch and spend the rest of the day exploring the surroundings and revelling on the river. Day 3.- Tara river Today we will prepare for second part of Tara river rafting, reach our camp in the afternoon and have lunch. We could enjoy more activities like swimming, fishing, hiking around camp or just relaxing near the river. Dinner will be served by the camp fire with some live music. Day 4. With some experience of the last 2 days' rafting, we will then paddle on the most exciting part of Tara River to end our River expedition. Have some time to rest before moving on to Albania the next day. Day 5 - Montenegro/Albania Border After the 100km river expedition, our overland through Balkans will continue on with picturesque drive towards the border of Monte Negro and Albania. Our Albanian guide will meet us in Plav, Montenegro and we can have our lunch (not included). Once border custom cleared, we will drive to Vusanje and start our trekking along the Rapojana valley. Team will enter Albania near the Gjeshtara lake and proceed to "Fusha e Runicës" where our tents are set for us to rest. Horses will be deployed to transport our baggage along the way. Day 6 - Arapi Mountain Hike continues in the direction of Thethi through– Peja Pass. For the strong and fit ones, attempting to ascend Arapi Mountain is possible. In Thethi, accommodation is simple with clean guesthouse in shared rooms. Day 7 - Enchanting Waterfall Hike and MTB Ride We will depart from Thethi right after breakfast. The day begins with the 4x4 off road tour along the old road connecting Thethi and Shkodra at total journey of 80 km. 65 of them on a panoramic, single track, unpaved and mostly exposed roadway. We will make few stops for some hikes on the way, beginning from Grunas waterfall, follow by the place called Ndërlysa. The glacier mills of Ndërlysa offer a unique spectacular nature; the water of the Black River (LumiiZi) cut through a narrow crevice that has arisen over the millennia. We then continue our hike up to the "Blue Eye of Kapreja" (SyriikaltëriKapresë), a natural pool with amazing blue water in a jungle-like environment. Attractions like the ruins of Drishti castle and Mesibridge can be seen along the way. Lunch in Shkodra at a quaint restaurant with unique ambience, have a taste of the different traditional delectable of this region. After lunch we will drive to another place for MTB ride, following the path which runs slightly upwards, and descend towards Shengjin. Dinner will be at a restaurant, we will ride along the coast to Rana e Hedhun and stay overnight on the beach in the tents. Day 8 - Fabulous Panoramic Sights Road transfer near to Shen Gjergj, where our MTB tour continues to Labinot. We will follow a 50 km unpaved single track roadway offering panoramic views. Our 4X4 support vehicles will be on standby to pick you up to the next destination should you feel tired. From Labinot we will drive to Elbasan – Belsh – Kucove – Berat with our 4 X 4 vehicles on a partially damaged paved road. We will then enjoy our night in Berat in a traditional family-run hotel and dine in their traditional restaurant. Day 9 - Llogara National Park Drive to the village near Berati, where we enter river Osumi canyon and hike through the river. After lunch we will explore this old city of Berati (2400 years old). Llogara N ational park will host us for the night and for the next few days. Berati-Llogara National park River hiking Minibus Hotel Today we will explore the amazing Llogara National park with spectacular finish of tandem paragliding* over the fabulous Albanian coast and landing directly on the beach, and jump into the clean Albanian sea - our reward after a wonderful hike. Day 10 - Start of our hikes; Tandem Jumping There is option for 2 hikes today depending on your physical fitness. Do easy hike through Llogara National park or more difficult hike to the top of Mount Qorre. We will decide which to embark on in the morning. Both groups will end at the same place. When we all meet again we will be driven to Livadhi beach, stay in a little family-run hotel by the sea after an intense day. - Optional Tandem jumping at 60 Euro each. Subject to weather conditions. Day 11 - Kayaking on the coast, into underwater caves Last days will be spent on the Albanian coast to experience some wet activities exploring beautiful Albanian beaches and caves. We will start with sea kayaking along Albanian coast . There are many little pristine bays, caves, and places to visit. We will stop at Aquarium Bay, sip coffee in Jali, enter underwater caves before arriving at Ngjipe beach. Once at Ngjipe beach we will venture around the canyon of Ngjipe, situated along the lower parts of the Ngjipe stream, between the villages of Vuno and Ilias formed by water erosion. Canyon is more than 2 km long and 100 m deep. The walls of the canyon are steep with attractive landscape, the beach is pristine and the water clear and warm. This activity is a bit demanding but secured. Tonight we will set tents on the Ngjipe beach under millions of stars. Day 12 - Exploring Albanian Coast We will continue on to explore Albanian coast with our sea kayaks and subsequently with sport fishing boats; allowing us to see many hidden beaches, caves and other interesting spots only accessible from the sea. Among others we will also explore Pirate's Cave, a stone block pillar divides it's entry into two parts. It is easy to visit in calm seas but the cave is blocked in strong waves. The cave is more than 30 m long, 8 m wide and 10 -12 m high. We will paddle from Ngjipe beach to Dhermi, Sport boats will then take us all the way to Gramma bay. We will return to Palasa and from there to Llogara. Ngjipe-Dhermi-Gramma bay-Palasa-Llogara Paddling, Motor boat Minibus Hotel Day 13 - Apollonia, big city in the Adriatic The day will be organized according to the flight schedules. Drive from Llogara to Tirana Airport takes around 3 hours. On the way to Airport we can visit the archeological site of Apollonia, which is one of the largest cities in the Adriatic, an important international centre of learning and trade. The city was originally founded in 588 BC as a Corinthian colony and was named after the god Apollo. Else we could also drive directly to Tirana for a short sightseeing city tour before departure to airport.
