Carding Mill Valley Car Park
Here's something a bit different for you... Now that the weather's warming up, let's go for a swim on the wild side! Carding Mill Reservoir sits in a sheltered glen in the Shropshire Hills having previously served to power the textile mill in the valley below from 1902. Today it serves to provide frivolity to anyone brave enough to plunge in. This will be an easy-osey, fun filled day out that will include some bracing wild swimming and a dousing under Lightspout falls (Super fun). Once we've built up an appetite we'll stop for a picnic lunch before making plans to head back to the real world. Wild Swimming I love swimming in the wild as it's utterly invigorating and fun. It is however, very different to the confines of your swimming pool as you can't see the bottom, there are no life guards on the bank and it's bloody freezing (until you get used to it). It does however, make you feel alive and closer to nature than any indoor structure ever could. So if you're a strong swimmer in good health, you'll love it! ***The most ridiculous pair of speedos/swimsuit wins a prize*** Packed Lunch Bring a generous packed lunch with you as once we've built up a bit of an appetite we'll gather on the bank and have lunch together. In late summer I'll likely be integrating this experience into a WILD CAMPING WEEKEND. Details to be posted ASAP. Required Kit: Swimming Cozzie Towel Packed lunch Plenty of drinking water Sunscreen Change of clothes and rugged trainers/boots (short hike to waterfall) Parking We'll park at Carding Mill car park. Further details to follow. As this is a relatively small group please only RSVP if you are confident you'll be able to attend to avoid others missing out :) ***Everyone taking part in our Group activities does so entirely at their own risk. We do not employ qualified guides, leaders or first aiders on any of our events. The group works on the same basis of being a group of friends who arrange activities together, who invite others to join them on this basis via the Meetup web site. Event organisers and event hosts assume no responsibility for anyone attending any group event. The Group, group organisers, event organisers and event hosts will not be held responsible for any accident, injury or loss occurring as a result of any Group event or in connection with travel to such event, however caused.
***FROM JULY ONWARDS*** Hike & Get Merry is now 3 months old. In that short time we've met some fantastic people and had some great adventures. The plan now is to grow and develop the club, keeping true to our core activities (Hiking, eating & drinking) but, also trying out some more left-field, daring adventures to make you feel alive! Anyway, the point of this post is that in order to keep the club going, our organisers need to find a way for H&GM to cover its costs. Our organisers always reccie the routes in advance and pay for their petrol out of their own pockets. We also have to pay meetup subscription fees currently about £215 per year ($24 per month) however this will come down if we pay an annual fee. In a bid to achieve long term sustainability, we've tasked our creative marketing department to come up with some unique ideas. They have responded with gusto!! From JULY onwards, we'll put out an old jam jar either over coffee at the start or lunch in the middle of our hikes and you can chuck in some loose change. There's no obligation to contribute however anything between 50p and £2 would be greatly appreciated if you enjoy our events. Income and outgoings will be made totally transparent at the end of the year. Any excess income will go towards a Christmas bash.
