What we’re about
If you are interested in hiking and exploring the Tucson area mountains and Sonoran desert this is the group for you.
In addition to hiking we will also take the time to enjoy the natural beauty of the flora an fauna as well as the culture and history of the area.
This group will be for all skill levels but will focus on hikes in the 4-8 mile range with shorter hikes occasionally being offered. Elevation gain will be mostly 400-1200'.
Restrictions:
• No dogs
• No firearms
• No tobacco/vape products
RSVP etiquette:
• Sign up ONLY if you are certain you will attend
• If you need to cancel, do so BEFORE the deadline
• If you change your mind take yourself off the Going or Wait list
• Please don't be a "no-show"
• As always - Hike at Your Own Risk
Our group features hikes of variable length & ability. Beginner hikes range from 2 to 4 miles, while advanced hikes may be up to 16 miles and may feature bush-wacking & rock scrambling. Beginner and moderate hikes usually are a mixed group between athletic pace and slow or moderate pace. Having fun talking, taking pictures, and admiring the beautiful Sonoran desert is all part of the package deal. Many factors determine the difficulty of a hike: mileage, terrain, elevation and pace. The hike rating scale that we have adopted is:
A - Extreme: no limit for distance or elevation
B - Advanced: maximum 16 miles or 3000' gain
C - Intermediate: maximum 8 miles or 1500' gain
D - Beginner: maximum 4 miles or 500' gain

Trails with Tails: Cienega to the Dam from Vail Access
Cienega Preserve Vail Access, 28X2+MHH Vail, Arizona, Vail, AZ, USInterested in dog friendly hikes in southern Arizona? This is a hike for you and your dog! If you are bringing a dog, he/she must be well socialized with people and other dogs. All hikers are welcome!
No designated trail. The creek might be running and there might be a scramble to get by weeds and debris. We will hike to the check dam. There are also Morteros to find up on the cliffs. Distance: 4 miles, out and back. Elevation gain: minimal. Pace: a slow to moderate pace. Always be in control of your dog(s). They must be leashed when departing and approaching trailheads. If you choose to unleash your dog(s) it must not disturb others.
The most important equipment for our hikes is a small day pack to carry your water, dog bowl, snacks, first aid, etc. We hike as a group. No one gets left behind. Know your limitations on the trail as well as your pup’s. Keep us informed of anything that might interfere with your ability to complete the hike. Let someone else on the hike know you are leaving the hike.
Bring water shoes and poles if wanted. I have acquired a permit for a specific number of people.
