Madera Canyon is a fee area - $5.00 per car or Federal pass
These fees for recreational use will hopefully allow
the Forest Service to continue to subsidize grazing
leases and timber sales at their present generous levels.

The Hike:
This visit to Madera Canyon will allow you the opportunity to hike a path less taken and visit a spot most hikers in the Santa Ritas never get to.
This hike starts on the Super Trail which we will follow just past the first creek crossing. The trail will then soon start to switch back up the canyon.

After the first hard right, we will look for a definite dirt path leading off the trail and heading up to the left. This path is known as the "Pipeline Trail". It is not an official trail and it is not on the official maps. This trail follows the contour with a steady climb then drops into a stream bed which we will cross and then follow all the way up to the cut off to Roger's Rock. It is a steady, moderately steep ascent up to the cut off. We will see lots of big oaks, sycamores, ashes and pines as we make the ascent of this lush ravine.
When we get to Roger's Rock we will climb up on top which can be done easily and safely. Then we will relax, take in the fabulous view, eat our snacks and head back down the trail after a half an hour or so.

The route back will be on an upper section of the Super Trail which will take us past the branch off on the Pipeline trail then back down to the parking area.

RSVP etiquette:
• Sign up only if you really intend to come
• If you need to cancel, do so BEFORE the deadline so someone can get your spot
• If you change your mind take yourself off the Going or Wait list
• Please don't be a no-show

Be sure to bring adequate water, food, trekking poles, etc.
