Let's hike Brushy Creek Park Trail and hike for 1.5 hours and walk 4 miles. A flashlight will be mandatory. Please only sign up if you are serious about going. Attendance will be tracked, and I reserve the right to remove members from the group with three or more no shows. Anybody changing their RSVP to no in less than an hour from the start time will be considered a no show. I have limited the attendance to eight. If you crash the event, you will not be able to hike with the group. This trail is paved, so you don't need any hiking boots, be sure to bring two or more liters of water. Well behaved dogs are welcome on the trail. Here is some more info located below: https://alltrails.com/explore/trail/us/texas/brushy-creek-regional-trail If you need to contact me, my phone number is[masked]. We will meet at the picnic tables, and I will provide a picture. You can also enter in the coordinates below, and this will take you to the right place. Sometimes you cannot copy them from the meetup site on a smartphone, so email them from a computer to yourself. I use Google maps and enter the coordinates. [masked], [masked] This club does cost me money to run. If you like it and want to donate click the link below: https://secure.meetup.com/Hiking-Walking-and-Socializing/contribute/
RSVPs open 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9. Every Austinite should play tourist once in a while. Let's climb the 106 steps to Austin's highest point, at 775 feet above sea level. This is obviously not a true hike, just steps-and-view. Ground rules: No-shows and last-minute cancellations won't hike with me again. Trail: rock steps. How far, how long: Ninety minutes at most. Sunset this date is 8:11 p.m. Meeting point: Street parking is free at Covert Park. Look for a silver Kia and a mostly-masked guy who looks just like me. I'll update with what color shirt I'm wearing. Personal prep: Come well hydrated. Walking shoes will be fine.
Ground rules: RSVPs OPEN SUN EVE, 8/16. Please consider carefully if you'll actually attend before registering, and then manage your reservation, so as not to deprive anyone else of the chance. No-shows and last-minute cancellations won't hike with me again. Trail: mostly hard surface, mostly single-file and mostly under shade, mostly along Walnut Creek. It's moderate on a scale of easy->moderate->strenuous, due to some elevation changes. Walking shoes are an option. How far, how long: We will cover three miles in 100 minutes or less. Meeting point: Meet at the map kiosk at the trailhead in Copperfield Park. There should be barely enough parking, including along the curb so long as there's no red paint. Personal prep: It will be humid. I recommend bringing at least a liter of water. The trail allows leashed dogs, so long as yours is social enough to be petted by strangers - if there's any question about this, then No.
Palmetto State Park Refectory
Any or all of these: Hike, sunset, picnic, moonrise! Please do not register "just in case" you might go. Please do register when you've committed with the $3.00 day pass from Tx Parks Dept. This is Labor Day weekend. >>>If you are on the Going list, please confirm with a posted comment that you have your pass, or please change your RSVP within 48 hours. If you cannot do one of these things, I will change your RSVP for you, and then please don't register for any future event of mine.<<< Palmetto State Park is only one hour's drive from Austin but a thousand miles different because of its tropical dwarf palms (palmettos) in a riverine swamp ecosystem. The afternoon shadows through the fern-draped trees in the jungle setting are my main goal. Optional BYO picnic after the hike; bbq is my second goal :-) Sunset: 7:49 pm, will be gorgeous through the trees Moonrise: 9 pm, 91%, will be gorgeous through the trees Ground rules: 1. Leashed dogs OK, so long as yours is social enough to be petted by strangers. 2. You are responsible for your own park entry reservation. See comments for the link. 3. Please manage your Meetup reservation. No-shows and last-minute cancellations won't hike with me again. #noflakes Trail: Easy, flat, decomposed granite. How far, how long: 3.1 miles loop, about 1.5 hrs, with optional, short loops in the middle. Optional group picnic afterward. Meeting point: Refectory building. Personal prep: Come hydrated and BYO water. If you're sticking around for the sunset picnic, BYO food. I'm going to pick up to-go stuff from the City Market BBQ on the way to the park for myself. There is no food or store in the park.
