Hiking with Friends is a group from Walnut Creek Friends Church and others who enjoy hiking the hills in Contra Costa County and other Bay Area locations. This group is for anyone who enjoys making new friends and exploring the great outdoors while developing stronger relationships with Jesus, nature, and one another.

Greetings All,
The Fernandez Ranch John Muir Land Trust is one of my favorite hikes in the east bay hills. This moderate 5.46 mile hike includes a variety of environments including open grassland, shaded oak forest, and top of hill overlooks. Elevation gain is a mostly gradual 833 ft with stunning views and scenery. The hike is located south of highway 4 in Martinez on the way to Pinole.

Dogs are allowed off leash under voice control.
• Logistics:
Lets meet at the trail head parking lot at 9:00 am. The address is 1081 Christie Road, Martinez. Note: From Concord be very careful when you get back on highway 4 eastbound - the cars come up VERY FAST! Also Christie road is a "minor" partially paved road on the right - immediately BEFORE the train track under crossing.
If you would like to carpool, let me know and I will meet you at the Walnut Creek Friends Church back parking lot leaving at 8:15 am. The church address is 1950 First Avenue in Walnut Creek. 
• What to bring:
Be sure to bring plenty of water, layered clothing, a hat if you like, sturdy shoes, or boots , a snack, and as always, an attitude for making friends.
