Details
Meeting Agenda:
6:00 – 6:40 pm: Pizza, water and networking.
6:40 – 6:45 pm: Welcome message by Ernest Bonat, Ph.D.
6:45 – 8:15 pm: Presentation and open discussions. “Using Vector Quantization for Machine Learning Classification Projects” by Joe Everton, Software Engineer and a Principal Consultant at SoftSource Consulting.
Abstract:
Vector quantization is a processing step that can be combined with machine learning algorithms to classify datasets with examples of varying length, or where recognizing repeating patterns would be useful. It can be used on 2D images, but can be very effective applied to signal processing. This presentation will explore using vector quantization to help classify signals measured by a wrist-worn accelerometer. Joe Everton is a software engineer and a principal consultant for SoftSource Consulting. He has applied his craft in many fields, including semiconductor, 3D graphics tools, an online game, and aviation.
8.15 pm – 9.00 pm: Coding and learning session. Bring your Python development laptop!
