The Hollywood Hills Saltwater Fishing Science and Social Club brings together scientists (from the U of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, Nova SE U Oceanographic Center, and NOAA AOML), hobbyist, recreational and commercial fisherman to discuss saltwater fishing and ocean science since 2007.
We just joined Meetup.com in order to let the community know about our club. The club has both an active seminar and research program bringing together fisherman and scientists together to do research such as tagging of swordfish, fish gut analysis, and finding out how fast fish grow. The meetings start off with a Happy Hour, fishing reports, general announcements, a seminar with featured speaker or panel of experts, and group discussion. Many legendary captains, as well as ocean and fishery scientists, regularly show up to these meetings and freely share their knowledge. These are free meetings and we also give away free door prizes. We will also be having free parties with plenty of food and drinks for those that attend the meetings, for speakers, and for those who have helped the club. A few of us believe in giving back to the community so there are no dues or fees, so please join the HHSFSSC and learn more about the ocean and fishing while meeting some great people.
The club is very happy to announce a seminar on fish vision by one of the world's experts. Dr. Lorian Schweikert (FIU) will speak on "Fish Vision and Underwater Optics: Can Tarpon and Other Gamefish See Your Rig?". All of pro captains are very excited about this seminar; you should be too. Free meeting open to all.
