Join us for a Home Decorators Club social event! Let's get together in front of the fire and get to know one another. What’s the *New* styling hype? It’s hygge.
It’s pronounced “hewgah.” To understand the term’s meaning, just burrow into a big comfy pile of phrases synonymous with “well-being,” coziness, ease, conviviality and, above all, a warm glow.
My Mom, daughter and I traveled to Denmark and learned more about this style. We will share tips to achieving this feeling in your home. So Home Decorator Club besties come and relax and enjoy.
According to author Meik Wiking in “The Little Book of Hygge: The Danish Way to Live Well” (Penguin 2016), hygge originated from a Norwegian word. The Danes appropriated the term to some extent, but it’s common throughout Scandinavia
So, here’s a list of what Hygge style pieces you will find in a room:
Natural warm and inviting textiles
A warm glow in the room with lit candles
Daily rituals if warm reading socks
“Outside In” with fresh branches, leaves, and flowers
Dimmed lights, special reading lamps
More minimal not over consumption
A warm fire in the fireplace or fire pit
Embrace your past, photo albums, and family photos
Hide your TV, put down your phone
Hygge is not a thing or something you buy, hygge is a state of mind. You can have hygge on your own or with family and friends. It relates to a certain atmosphere. Sometimes you have tried to create the right environment for hygge. Creating that environment might include lighting the fireplace, playing soft music, selecting a fine wine. Hygge will not just appear if your mindset is not ready and the interaction with people on that specific occasion is not happening. You simply cannot dictate hygge to just come around when you need it.
We will sit around the fireplace, bring your Hygge warm socks, a blanket, I’ll light the candles and play some music and we will try and conger up the Hygge feeling. Without the help of electronics, we will pass around pictures of things we feel resemble this lifecycle and discuss what we can do to emulate it.
Hot drink or hot snack to share
Wine if you are so inclined
Pictures of what you think the Hygge feeling might be
Your favorite warm lounging socks to wear
A small blanket to sit around the fireplace
I hope to see many of you over for this fun relaxing social event. There is a $5.00 meetup fee at the door and a handout on Hygge that will be shared. See you! Jonelle'
