Each of our guests has their own unique approach and inspiration behind their journey towards comic book conception, creation and circulation.
From the adventures of the last Fenland eel catcher to comics in the name of science we'll be exploring the highs and lows of craft and creative mastery in this fascinating field.
We'll have free beer, wine, soft drinks and Kettle chips, and plenty of time to chat with other guests!

Everyone has a story to tell and the freedom and uniqueness of the medium mean that comics are the perfect way to tell it. Here’s how and why I decided to tell the stories of my dad’s adventures as the last Eel catcher in the Fens. There’s criminals, ferrets, and royalty involved, enjoy!

By day I run a university design consultancy. By night I am a frustrated creative. A self published comic book writer I’m currently seeking artists to collaborate on a new comic book projects. Either a western or one to do with dinosaurs.
In the summer of 2016 I decided I wanted to write comic books. Over 3 months I wrote scripts, commissioned artists and self published my own comic book anthology called ‘Impossible Tales’ In this talk I’ll tell you how I did it and the pitfalls I encountered when self publishing.

Charli is a freelance illustrator based in Norwich with a love for science, colour, and strange stories. She’s previously had the pleasure of working on a wide range of projects, from graphic novels & kids books to murals and table top games.
Graphic novels & comics have become a hugely diverse format, and subjects such as education and awareness very much in it’s spectrum. I will be talking about the ways in which Open Day, a graphic novel myself and writer Shey Hargreaves are working on, is being developed with this in mind.
