What we're about
The National Organization for Women, Inc. is committed to taking action to bring women into full equality in the mainstream of American society NOW. The Houston Area chapter is active in fighting for reproductive and abortion rights, pay equity, legal and social equality for women, and ending domestic violence and sexual assault. We have an active campaign to register and educate voters so we can take back our state from those who want to control our most private parts and private places. We also have a campaign going to educate people about "fake clinics" and we provide clinic escorts at a local abortion clinic to protect women from anti-abortion protesters. NOW means ACTION so if you agree with our mission and want make change, come join us at our regular monthly meetings which are usually on the first Sunday of each month and participate in our actions as they develop. You can also find out more about NOW at http://www.now.org and on our chapter facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/NOWHouston.
To join the Houston Area Chapter of NOW or make a donation, go to www.NOWTexas.com or e-mail us at TexasStateNOW@gmail.com for a membership application and of course you can join at a meeting or event. Please join NOW thru Texas State NOW local rather than on the now.org website. Regardless of whether you join thru the national or the state organization, your dues will be joining the national, state and local NOW organizations. The difference is that if you join at a local meeting or thru Texas State NOW about 1/3 rd of the money goes to the national organization and the remainder stays here in Texas to help build your local and state organizations. When you join NOW on the national website or make a donation there, not one penny comes back to Texas. Later on when you renew your dues, national keeps about 2/3 rds of the renewal dues and rebates about 1/3 rd of renewal dues to the local or state organization. Our annual dues are $40 with option for reduced rates on a sliding scale. Your NOW dues must be current to vote on our priorities, to be a spokesperson for NOW, or to hold office in NOW.
