Big Thicket National Preserve Beech Creek Hike ~11.1 Miles

Details

Gathering Place: The originally planned trail has been closed indefinitely so we will relocate to the Beech Woods Trail. We will be obvious in the small parking area. If you are coming from Houston check this page for comments or other changes before leaving. This part of the preserve is subject to flooding, so overnight weather may force changes to be made in the morning. I will post any change information as early as possible.

If you need help call or text Tom at 713-781-1680, but remember that cell service is unreliably in these deep woods.

The Hike: The out and back hike will over the Beech Woods Loop and the connecting forest service access road. The trail is a shaded. There is no feature to mark the turn around spot so after five miles, don't be too far ahead of the leader.

About The Big Thicket National Preserve

Life of all types abounds in the Big Thicket. This national preserve protects the incredible diversity of life found where multiple habitats converge in southeast Texas. Hiking trails and waterways meander through nine different ecosystems, from longleaf pine forests to cypress-lined bayous. It is a place of discovery, a place to wander and explore, a place to marvel at the richness of nature.
