What we're about

Doctoral students and early career faculty of Houston (and surrounding area) colleges and universities are invited to join this Meetup group. Participants will set their writing goals, complete silent writing sessions, and praise each other's progress. The goal for each Meetup will be a minimum of four 20 - 25 minute writing sessions (also known as a Pomodoro Set). Such short writing sets will be accompanied by short verbal check-ins, words of encouragement, and advice to insure progress. Intended by-products of participating in this group are advancement of academic writing projects, research and writing collaborations, knowledge of writing productivity tools, and a collegial network across South Texas Institutions of Higher Education. If you want to publish, we are the group for you! If you are a tenure track professor, we are the group for you! If you want to get your dissertation DONE, meet AND write with us!

Please note: There is a 30 day trial period for this group. Monthly dues of $1.00 are requested after the 30 days to offset costs associated with maintaining the Meetup site, a $110 yearly cost to the organizer.

West Houston Silent Write-In

Panera Bread

The Houston Early Career Faculty meet-up group has a simple, yet powerful agenda each meeting: 1. We briefly introduce ourselves, research interests, and any writing goal for the writing session. 2. We turn on a timer, write for 20 - 25 minutes and take a brief 5 - 10 break to discuss progress. 3. We repeat step 2 until the end of the meeting time (usually 5PM). The agenda is intended to inspire and motivate writing by creating camaraderie and joy around the writing process. Additionally, meetings are inspired by the work of Peter Elbow and the Pomodoro Method - short, focused, writing sets where writing occurs for 4, 20-30 minute sets with brief check-ins between each set. RSVP so we'll know to save you a seat - your first caffeinated drink is my treat! Looking forward to writing with you, Omah • What to bring Laptop • Important to know
