About us
Hello to all the geeks in Houston!
We are a group of geeks looking for other like-minded people to converse with about geek culture and have fun outings with. If topics like Dr. Who, Star Wars, RPG, Josh Whedon, Marvel/DC comics, X-Men, The Avengers, movies, cosplay, video games, retro gaming, Firefly, anime, Battlestar Galactica, Torchwood, tabletop games, card games, or anything else geeky sounds like YOU, then it's time to join the Houston Metro Geeks! We will be planning lots of outings and doing lots of geeky things together around Houston. This group was started in Atlanta with The Metro Atlanta Geeks and we want to bring the same atmosphere and love for geekdom to the Lone Star State!
We would like to have a great environment for us to facilitate a fantastic time and build geeky friendships. We will try to plan on doing lots of fun activities for everyone & embark on our various interests. We'll do things like set up game nights, go to conventions, have bar nights, go out to dinners & host potlucks, sing karaoke, play trivia, go to the movies and viewing parties, plus plenty of other stuff! We can't wait to meet you all, so come join our ranks!
HMG Rules:
1. Please contact us if you have a change in your RSVP status (so we don't buy too much stuff)
2. Respect fellow members! We have had some issues with this (*not much*), but it must be said for the sake of it. Rudeness, hostility, and/or personally-offensive behavior, and harrassment will not be tolerated.
3. To attend events hosted in a private residence, you must have attended at least three (3) previous HMG public MeetUp event and be in good standing with the group or be "vouched in" by a member in good standing. This ensures that you are a familiar face and have not had any prior conduct issues so that everyone is comfortable with one another within a more personal environment.

Japan Festival Houston is an annual celebration of Japanese culture held in Houston’s Hermann Park. Enjoy the rich cultural heritage of Japan with traditional and contemporary performances of Japanese music, dance and martial arts, Japanese/Japanese-inspired food, as well as demonstrations and displays of Ikebana flower arrangement, tea ceremony, origami, bonsai and more.
One of the most attended events of its type across the entire United States, the Japan Festival brings about a reaffirmation of a commitment to Japanese and Japanese-American traditions, both old and new.
The event is FREE and open to the public. Vendors will be charging for their food items and merchandise. Participation in select activities will require a fee.5 attendees

Since the 1950s, Koreans have been an integral part of Houston’s history. Throughout the decades the Korean community quietly preserved its heritage and traditions through local events like small-scale festivals and parades. Prior to 2009, there had not been a unifying event that all of Houston could partake in and bring together the entire Korean-American community.
The enterprising young professionals of the Korean-American Society of Houston (KASH) organized the very first Korean Festival Houston in the Houston Community College – Spring Branch parking lot with the support of local community and business organizations. The success of that inaugural event was clear evidence of the significant demand for the Korean cultural experiences in Houston.
Bolstered by the enthusiastic support from the community, KASH made a bold decision in the very next year to move the Korean Festival to its current home at Discovery Green.2 attendees
