Katy Prairie Service Outing

Details

On Saturday, February 10, 2018, the Houston Sierra Club will visit the Katy Prairie Conservancy’s Indiangrass Preserve, conduct service work, enjoy a potluck lunch, and tour part of the Katy Prairie. Come on this mild, late winter day and give back so that the Katy Prairie is protected for our and future generations’ enjoyment.

Bring your day-pack, several quarts of water, snacks, potluck lunch item, camera, field guides, and clothes appropriate for the weather. Long pants are recommended. No pets, firearms, or radios. We will put our cell phones on vibrate to enjoy the solitude, quiet, and natural sounds of the Katy Prairie.

We will meet at the Indian Grass Prairie Preserve at 9 am. Directions are:

  1. From Houston, drive west on Interstate 10 to Pederson Road.

  2. Exit to Pederson Road, turn right, go north to U.S. Highway 90.

  3. Turn left onto U.S. Highway 90, go west about 100 yards, turn right (north) onto Morrison Road (FM 2855).

  4. Go north on Morrison Road, cross FM 529, and veer left as Morrison Road curves west to Pattison Road.

  5. Turn right on Pattison Road and go north to Herbert Road.

  6. Turn left onto Herbert Road, go west about one mile, and turn left (at the sign) into the entrance that leads to the Katy Prairie Field Office and Indiangrass Preserve (31950 Herbert Road, Waller, Texas 77484).
