Hike at Huntsville State Park

On Saturday, May 19, 2018, the Houston Sierra Club will hike in Huntsville State Park Park). The hike will be on the Chinquapin Trail (6.8 miles) and will circle Lake Raven in the Park. Migration should be in flight and we may see some interesting birds.
Bring your day-pack, three quarts of water, snacks, lunch, camera, field guides, and clothes appropriate for the weather. Long pants are recommended. This outing is limited to 20 people. No pets, firearms, or radios. We will put our cell phones on vibrate to enjoy the solitude, quiet, and natural sounds of the Park. Unless you have a yearly state park card, a fee of about $5 is required to enter the Park.
We will meet at the Park (565 Park Road 40 West, Huntsville, Texas 77340) at 9 am. Directions are:

From Houston, drive 50 miles north on Interstate 45, past the Woodlands, Conroe, Willis, and New Waverly.

About 5 miles north of New Waverly, exit onto Park Road 40, turn left, and follow Park Road 40 West to the Park entrance station. We will meet at the Park entrance station.
