Sierra Club Hikes in Seabourne Creek Nature Park in August for the First Time

Details

• What we'll do
On Saturday, August 11, 2018, from 8:30 am to noon, the Houston Sierra Club will hike, for the first time, in the 164-acre Seabourne Creek Nature Park, Rosenberg, Fort Bend County. This nature park is the site of the annual Prairie Heritage Festival. The nature park consists of a lake stocked with fish, butterfly garden, demonstration garden, restrooms, observation decks, pier, restored prairie, walking trails, wetlands, and gazebo. We will walk the trails and enjoy viewing Seabourne Creek and wildlife and wildflowers in the park.

We will carpool/caravan at 7:30 am in the parking lot just west of the Starbucks (next to Becks Prime) in Meyerland Plaza. Starbucks fronts the 4700 block of Beechnut (south side of the street near the West Loop South). Look for a silver Honda Civic with bumper stickers.

Bring your cameras, day-pack, water (at least three quarts), snacks, lunch, hiking shoes, spotting scopes, binoculars, insect repellent, sunscreen, and field guides. It will be hot so dress appropriately. We will eat lunch in the park after completing our hike.

Sign-up on the Houston Sierra Club Outings Meet-Up Site, contact Brandt Mannchen at 832-907-3615, or email brandtshnfbt@juno.com. We will meet in the parking lot of Seabourne Creek Nature Park at 8:30 am. The directions are:

  1. Go southwest on U.S. 59 (I-69) from the I-610 intersection about 29 miles and exit to State Highway (SH) 36 in Rosenberg.

  2. Turn left (south) onto SH 36 South and go less than a mile and turn left into the entrance for Seabourne Creek Nature Park.

  3. Follow the entrance road until you see the parking lot on the left near the lake.
