Hudson Valley Humanists (HVH) is a group that gets together a few times a month for topic meetings, socials and other gatherings. Hudson Valley Humanists is a group of non-religious people of all ages who embrace a secular life stance in our community. Hudson Valley Humanists hold meetings about educational and social activities that are supportive of secular values and scientific literacy. We support separation of state and church and promote collaboration with all groups that foster Equality of Human Rights.
Most members do not reply on meetup - they just arrive at meetings (except for Book Club - use contact info to get location)

Deeply researched and eminently readable, Empire of Cotton by Sven Beckertt gives new insight into the relentless expansion of global capitalism. With graceful prose and a clear and compelling argument, Beckert not only charts the expansion of cotton capitalism . . . he addresses the conditions of enslaved workers in the fields and wage workers in the factories. An astonishing achievement.
It's a big book; we'll read half in Dec and finish in January
This is a social event on the first Sunday of each month where we discuss topics of interest to humanists -- which when you think of it, is very broad indeed.
We'll update each book club monthly meeting with the book for that month as soon as it is identified. Please check back and feel free to suggest books. Email Carol for further information.
