Join us for another night of entertaining talks and lively discussions about how we make technology work better for us.

Talks range from ethical considerations and the digital attention crisis to building humane tech products and individual digital wellbeing.

Rafael Calvo, Professor of Design Engineering at Imperial College London
Rafael A. Calvo, PhD (2000) is Professor of Design Engineering at Imperial College London focusing on the design of systems that support wellbeing in areas of mental health, medicine and education, and the ethical challenges raised by new technologies. He recently moved from Sydney, Australia, where he was Professor at the University of Sydney. In 2015 Calvo was appointed a Future Fellow of the Australian Research Council to study the design of wellbeing-supportive technology. He is author of “Positive Computing” (MIT Press) and over 200 peer-reviewed publications.

Rafael is the Director for Research at the Dyson School of Design Engineering and co-lead at the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence.

Georgie Powell, VP Digital Wellbeing at Qustodio
Georgie is Qustodio’s VP Digital Wellbeing, leading Qustodio’s evolution towards a wellbeing company, as well as managing the company's business in the UK. Prior to Qustodio, Georgie founded one of the original screen time apps, SPACE, helping millions of people to find their phone/life balance. Georgie built her career in technology initially as a management consultant and then working for Google, where she led YouTube in Australia and New Zealand.

Georgie is committed to a future where we use technology consciously to make the world a better place. She is a recognised thought leader in the future of tech, ethical tech and digital wellness and has consulted a number of leading telecoms and technology companies on the growing digital wellbeing industry. She recently helped curate the first ever Digital Wellbeing Festival and has delivered a bespoke Digital Wellbeing Summit for Google. She is currently supporting university research projects to better understand Digital Wellbeing and solutions for it.

James Barclay, Designer at doteveryone
James has been a designer with Doteveryone for nearly two years, being involved with the development and delivery of many projects aimed at making technology more responsible. Using graphic design, illustration and design-research he has shown how technology can be fairer for everyone in society. He is also responsible for Doteveryone’s visual comms and content design.

James will be walking us through a consequence scanning workshop.
