Our society is being hijacked by technology. What began as a race to monetize our attention is now eroding the pillars of our society: mental health, democracy, social relationships, and the development of our children. In this meetup, we want to collaborate and discuss how we can realign technology with humanity's best interests. The range of topics is wide, e.g. digital ethics, politics, mindfulness, society, minimalism, education, ai, and blockchain. We will focus on the Rhineland region with Cologne, Düsseldorf, Aachen and Bonn – but are open to collaborate worldwide.
We are planning our first meetup and are currently looking for partners in crime to support the movement in our region. Ping us if you want to get involved.
Background: In recent months, former Google employee Tristan Harris initiated the #timewellspent movement to show the world how the most successful digital companies build products that demand our attention which in turn disconnect us from each other. On the other hand, people have always been afraid of new technologies, i.e. trains that drive with more than 30 kph, book printing TV and so on. Is it different now? How can we integrate these considerations about technology serving humanity in our product design processes? What are your thoughts on this topic?
