What label do you like to use for your belief (or lack of belief)? Note: All are welcome with us :)

I like Humanist (I am an AHA member) but also have been known to go by Naturalist ;-)

Who or what inspires you to be a better person?

The kids and teens that I work with in my profession and those I have in my life who care about me. Oh, and my faithful dog, Tanner! :-)

We do lots of group service projects... what kind of projects would you like to see us plan or participate in?

Anything that is about preserving natural habitats, or assisting endangered species, helping to educate others. If I had to choose one problem to eradicate, it would be ignorance, because I am fairly sure most other social problems are either a direct or indirect result of this malady.

Why is "community" important to you?

Community is very important to me, and that's part of why I live the way I have chosen. The places I have experienced "community" in my life so far have been rare, though one of them is the sailing community, particularly us "liveaboards." We are a very tight community, and feeling a sense of belonging in the world is something human beings all require, though it's difficult to find other than in a microcosm of your own immediate family, but not beyond that. With the blinding speed that technology has entered all our lives, creating a system of "communication" that is primarily removed and disembodied (texts, emails, Instagrams, etc), I think it is even more important to create community, real community between people to slow this electronic alienation.

I'm an over-educated self-employed professional in Ventura, who lives a very non-conventional life aboard my sailboat in Ventura Harbor. I enjoy many outdoor activities and most of all, opportunities to have intelligent conversation.
