Monthly Meeting - Alternative Fuel Vehicles
The U.S. light-duty vehicle fleet is responsible for about half the petroleum consumed across the nation, and about 17 percent of America's greenhouse gas emissions. Numerous alternatives to traditional internal combustion engine vehicles have entered the market in recent years, but so far none have achieved sufficient market penetration to drive today's gas-guzzlers. Ryan Huffman will discuss the pros and cons of each of these alternative-fuel vehicles and the impact of a new type of vehicle could have on our economy and our planet. Ryan Huffman is a data analyst with a Master's degree in Public Policy from the University of Chicago. He has worked with Toyota, the Energy Policy Institute at Chicago, the U.S. Department of Energy and Argonne National Laboratories to study the market viability of alternative-fuel vehicles in the United States. A Palatine resident, Ryan ran as a Democrat in the race for U.S. Congress in Illinois 6th district this past March.
