Today's HNPS Meeting Discussion Starter Topic: What is Socialism?

Details
Today's Starter Topic: "What is Socialism?" What would a society look like with no socialism, and is it even possible?
Join us at our monthly meeting in room 309 at the Skagit valley Co-op.
Our Meetup had 10 attendees at our July meeting, before that, 5 in June and 6 in May. Courtesy Coffee, cream and sugar provided. Conversations always lively and unconventional.
We will have a short business meeting, brief introduction circle and then have a round table discussion about our starter topic, and then to other topics of the day. Occasionally we will book a guest speaker.
Today our Starter Topic is: "What really is Socialism?" What would society look like without any socialism? Is Democracy or a "rule by the people" in its very nature, socialistic?
We will also have an ongoing discussion on the future of HNPS now that we've lost our President to a new job in Montana. Robert Ray, our past President, has kept the organization going with little to no help and operating without a board. If we choose to keep HNPS going, we need to elect our board and begin collecting regular dues from members to pay for Meetup.com fees, Coffee service fees, and PO Box address fees.
Good news! Due to generous attendee voluntary donations, meetup site and coffee service have been paid up. We do have another $90 Meetup fee coming in November to plan for.
We have Room 309 reserved through the end of this year. We could continue this, or if there's a lack of interest, move headquarters to Bellingham instead where I, Monty Vonn can continue to keep HNPS alive locally.
