What we're about
The Humanists of Iowa a.k.a. the Humanist Society of Iowa, a chapter of the American Humanist Association http://www.americanhumanist.org , promotes the discussion of ideas and issues related to Secular Humanism. The group meets the second Monday of each month at 7 pm at the First Unitarian Church of Des Moines. Anyone interested in humanism, science, philosophy, LGBT, free thinking, secularism, agnosticism, and atheism is encouraged to attend to meet people of similar interests.
We are an affiliate of the Iowa Atheists and Freethinkers http://www.iowaatheists.org , and the First Unitarian Church of Des Moines, http://www.ucdsm.org ., and a member of the Central Iowa Coalition of Reason, http://www.centraliowacor.org . We are also regular correspondents with the Humanist Community of Iowa State Penitentiary in Ft. Madison, Iowa. Dr. Knupp attends there monthly as the outside sponsor and Chaplain. Dr. Knupp and Tom Harvey, AHA Celebrant, also attend and sponsor the Humanists at Fort Dodge Correctional facility.
