What we're about

Update as of 4/1/21 :

Because of COVID-19 concerns this meetup group continues to be closed to new members. The current quartet members are all vaccinated and have been playing together for some time. We have now resumed playing at my house weekly on Friday morning. At some future time this will change .

However, if you are interested you are welcome to call me and talk about the situation. Over the last few months I have been playing string trios ONLINE using Jamkazam and Jamulus. This has been successful under certain conditions and might be of interest to some players. So if you are a cellist or violist this is something you might be interested in exploring. Eventually I would like to pull together a string trio that would meet in my home.

My phone is 714-916-7354.

Prior description of the Huntington Beach String Quartet:

The purpose of this meetup group is to provide a way for amateur adult violinists, violists and cellists to play the classical string quartet music. We have been meeting since February 2016. There are about 10 members who are regularly attending the Friday morning meetups. We have been playing the Mozart, Beethoven Opus 18, Schubert, Haydn Mozart quartets/quintets. We meet on a regular basis in my home in Huntington Beach for about two hours. We strive for a relaxed and enjoyable experience and gear the music to meet members playing levels and interest.

Since 2015, the Huntington Beach String Quartet Meetup has been meeting weekly at my home on Friday mornings to play the classical Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven quartets. COVID has greatly impacted our activities over the last 20 months but a core group of five players, all vaccinated and wearing masks, have been meeting over the last 6 months. A second quartet group has recently starting meeting weekly Tuesday afternoons 1-3PM. I had been keeping the meetup closed to new people. Things are gradually changing.

Beginning in November 2021 there are two opportunities for new people with strong intermediate or advanced skill level. First - from time to time there is a need for substitute players who can step in and sight read music on short notice. Second - interested experienced string players can communicate with me with me using email, phone or Zoom. It's possible I can facilitate those people in forming a new quartet. This is admittedly complicated but I am willing to give it a try. I can be reached at[masked] or [masked], or though the meetup messaging.
